Our paradise vacation with family in Cuba
Cuba for an ordinary tourist is a dream, a paradise, where all romantics want to visit. Firstly, this country is very far away, and this is not Egypt or Cyprus, where you can easily get a tour at a bargain price, it is expensive, but unusual. Secondly, it’s cool, because in most of Cuba it is associated with cigars, rum and beautiful girls. And thirdly, it’s really very beautiful there, beautiful places simply fascinate all tourists.
And so my dream came true in the summer of 2014, I spent two weeks on the island, which will forever remain in my memory.
My husband and I traveled on our own, preliminarily studied all the sights, travel features, carefully collected information. However, as it turned out later, we were not prepared because we had missed so many details.
We flew on a Moscow-Havana flight.
We settled in a chic hotel overlooking the ocean and the Russian embassy. The rooms are clean, air conditioning, hairdryer and fridge.
The biggest problem for us was the language barrier, because the Cubans are very talkative people, they say “Cuban Spanish.” Older people do not know or understand English at all, and young people could hardly answer. Understanding was found only in tourist groups, excursions. Russian heard once for all the time and then it was a tourist from Russia.
The second problem is transport. The lack of buses, they really were not enough here. Throughout Havana there are only two observation vehicles; it was impossible to get there. Used a taxi, but it was not economically viable.
Excursions to neighboring provinces are very expensive, especially when ordering from a tour operator. You can rent a car, but again there is a language problem.
We walked with my husband in the center, especially liked to visit the souvenir market, because it was very often exhibited the work of talented Cuban artists, sculptors and others. We were in the cafe Hemengueya, where they drank a glass of daiquiri. Locals say that daiquiri is the best there. Among the attractions that they saw: a monument to Jose Marty with a child in her arms, the Museum of Spirits (they found perfumes from avon), the Museum of Arms, Armas Square.
For all 14 days of sea vacations, we only used the services of a tour operator and went on an excursion, which is precisely what convinced us that such trips are boring and not interesting, there is a crowd of people and noise everywhere.
Some “acquaintances” with the Cubans who we tried to make during the holidays helped us in the study of Cuba, since we thought that this is how we could make the holiday bright. We wanted to look at Cuba through the eyes of Cubans.
You can’t imagine how tourist Cuba differs from that Cuba that locals know. There are so many wonderful paradise beaches, places for a wonderful photo shoot. This, in my opinion, is the main reason why you should go so far on vacation.
Thanks to our familiar Cuban, we learned what draft local rum is, that real Cuban, cigars that cannot be bought in tobacco shops. We ate tiger prawns with kilograms, had lobster dinner every day, spent a little because we didn’t go to famous tourist cafes and restaurants. We saw that Cuba, which its sincere and energetic inhabitants daily observe.
