A vacation for two in Larnaca at the beginning of the season
After seeing the weather forecast in Cyprus at the end of May, we decided that it was time to go on vacation! The sea was quite warm (about 24 degrees), and due to the fact that it is shallow in Larnaca, the water near the shore was like fresh milk. During the day the air warmed up to 35 degrees, but the nights were pretty cool, so they did not use air conditioning in the room.
Since it is quite expensive to eat in Cyprus, we chose the all-inclusive system, fortunately, at the beginning of the season the prices are very pleasant. We lived at the Crown Resorts Henipa 3+ * hotel, seven kilometers from the center of Larnaca. The rooms are modest and in need of repair, but a large green area, excellent food and high-quality alcohol in the bar compensate for all other shortcomings. The sea is across the road, the beach is pebble, but a meter after entering the water, sand begins. There is nowhere to go especially in the evening, so we went for a walk in Larnaca or Ayia Napa (1.5 euros one way on a city bus). In Ayia Napa it is noisy and fun, in Larnaca it is much calmer.
There are not many excursions offered, and at the beginning of the season, not all travel agencies started their work, so they used the services of their tour operator. We went to Northern Cyprus (Famagusta, the castle of St. Hilarion, Kerinia, Bellapais Abbey). They were afraid of trips to the occupied territory, but everything went smoothly, the border was conditionally crossed, no searches and stamps in the passport. The price of 65 euros per person, of course, is very high. In the season, street agencies can take the same almost half the price.
Another trip was a jeep tour with a Greek guide who spoke excellent Russian. An individual tour (we were 8 people), drove along mountain roads, where there are no tourist buses, enjoying the beauties of the Troodos mountain range. We visited the village of Omodos, a monastery in Kykkos, climbed the highest point of the island, Mount Olymbos. It is a pity, because of the haze, visibility was poor, otherwise the whole island would be in full view. We saw the ancient Venetian bridge and Millomeris waterfall, and at the end of the trip we had lunch in a colorful restaurant in the mountains with local wine and a large selection of meat dishes and snacks (lunch was included in the price). 70 euros per person for the trip was not at all a pity, I liked everything very much.
When we wanted variety, instead of our beach we went to Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa with yellow sand and emerald water or to Mackenzie beach in Larnaca. It is located near the airport, made original photos with boarding planes. They brought the umbrella with them, settled on their towels, as sun loungers on all beaches were paid.
As a gift to friends, they brought natural olive soap (1 euro), Cypriot wines (from 2 euros for dry wine to 15 euros for commandaria) and grape vodka zivania (from 6 euros per half liter). Duty free in Larnaca is not bad, you can buy alcohol there, but we took everything at the Smart supermarket in Larnaca near St. Lazarus Church.
In general, the holiday was a success, the Cypriot all inclusive liked more than Turkish. The island is green, the sea is clean, people are friendly. If we get to Cyprus again, take a car and go around the southern part of the island.
