Unforgettable holidays in Como
Lombardy is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy, which is why thousands of tourists come here every year, regardless of the time of year. I rested in Como in April and did not even expect how much I would love this picturesque and cozy town. This resort is very famous, because in the city by the lake with the same name there are many very popular tourist sites, and the town itself is very beautiful.
Getting to Como is pretty straightforward – a comfortable electric train regularly comes here from Milan, and on the road it takes a little more than 4 hours. Tickets, by the way, can be bought by any tourist, since their cost is up to 10 euros. You can move around the city by public transport, and tickets can be bought at any station, in a tobacco shop or newspaper shop. By the way, if you plan to see the sights, and not just take a walk by the lake, it is better to buy a pass for 1 day, so it will be much more profitable.
I was heard about the city, so I came here for more than one day. I searched for accommodation on my own, through the booking site and found a completely acceptable option. To save money, I chose a hostel located near the center. It is about Ostello Bello Lake Como, which left only the most positive impressions. For 2 nights I paid a little more than 4 thousand hryvnia, given that breakfast and dinner were included in the price, it is very inexpensive. They cook deliciously, the dishes are fresh and aromatic, and the portions are quite rather large. The convenient location of the hostel allows you to easily get to anywhere in the city.
In small shops you can buy everything you need, the prices are quite reasonable. I read about the discount store “LD”, where many products have very low prices, for little money you can buy sweets and sausages. Vegetables can be bought in the market, not far from the center (I’ll say that the prices are not small, it’s much cheaper and more profitable to book accommodation where meals are included). Also in the center there is a large market where you can buy inexpensive clothes, bags and more.
I definitely advise you to visit the cable car, which offers simply magnificent views of the lake. A modern funicular will take you to Brunate – a wonderful place with its own atmosphere. There are observation platforms with a view of the city, the whole of Como is in the palm of your hand. There is also an open-air museum, where the ancient mechanism of the funicular is located. For those who want to eat – there is a cafe, there is also a shop with souvenirs (very beautiful crafts from cones and bells with owls). The only advice is for a trip to the funicular in Brunate, choose a clear day, because nothing is visible in the fog and you can just waste your time and money in vain.
Another high point is Castello Baradello (Baradello castle, more precisely, what remains of the castle). This place is visible from almost anywhere in the city, so guests of the city regularly go to the old tower (the road, by the way, is not easy, but a beautiful observation deck with benches awaits you at the top, with a view to the other side of the city). You can also see how trains run and narrow streets run to the lake. Como also has the Volta Museum and chic villas that you can see by purchasing an entrance ticket. For wealthy tourists there are air tours, as well as sightseeing tours on a boat along the entire lake. There are a lot of Russian-speaking guides in the city, and you can find them, as well as book a tour at any travel agency, which is quite enough.
The city is simply amazing, I can not even imagine how magnificent it is here in the summer, because even in April it was very warm and comfortable to walk around Como. Cafe, bistro and eateries are full, you can find them at every step. There are McDonald’s in the center, but there are always a lot of people. Food prices are quite reasonable. For an alcohol-free dinner, on average I paid 20-30 euros, while in eateries it was much cheaper (10-12 euros).
Even Milan, with all its beauty, was not as impressive as Como. Very soon I plan to come there again, but this time with my whole family.
