Unforgettable summer vacation in Costa Brava
My acquaintance with Spain began with the Costa Brava resort, where my husband and I went on a honeymoon in June 2016. When buying a tour, we were warned that the weather could be unpredictable, but I did not expect that in addition to a beach holiday, you can have such a good time in early summer. The price of the tour was quite affordable, given that this was the beginning of the season and we bought a ticket “last minute”.
If we talk about the weather – it was not quite summer, especially in the evenings it was cool. But in the afternoon it was quite possible to sunbathe and even swim. The bathing problem could be solved simply – the hotel had a cool pool, but the windy weather made adjustments to our plans. From my own experience I can say that if you want a full beach holiday, it is better to shift your vacation by a couple of weeks, when the water warms up better. But we swam, although I love warm water, and on the beach, vacationers did not crawl out of the water.
The beaches are well maintained and the shore is good, but the entry into the water is pebbles or sand, I think that it is quite possible to adapt. There are many vacationers, but finding a free place near the water is quite easy. Almost all cafes and restaurants, which are quite numerous in the resort, are ready to receive guests and can offer a wide variety of dishes for every taste and budget. Only breakfast was included in the price of our stay, so we had to have lunch and dinner outside the hotel. On average, for lunch, you had to pay from 20 to 50 euros, while the price included 2 glasses of cider or beer (0.33 liters each), as well as the main course. Dinner was a bit more expensive, because my husband, a sweet tooth, ordered dessert, and I ordered salad. But we chose more budgetary establishments, since we wanted to spend money on entertainment and excursions, and not leave them in restaurants.
In those days when the weather was not pleasant, we visited Barcelona, Girona and Mount Montserrat and I can say that the impressions were the best – it was fun and at the same time interesting, because there are a lot of excursions for tourists. There is much to say about the sights of Barcelona, and we couldn’t even see half, but in Girona, which is closer, we were able to get to know the town in more detail. Speaking of souvenirs, they are quite expensive, but I wanted to bring something for memory, so I had to spend some money. It took a lot of money to go on excursions and entertainments, which is only worth visiting the excursions in Barcelona (Dali Museum – 14 euros, Guell Park – 10 euros, a sightseeing tour of Barcelona – 40 euros for 4 hours, an aquarium – 15 euros). An excursion to Mount Montserrat to the Temple of the Black Madonna also cost 55 euros, and given that there are two of us, the amount turned out to be quite decent.
Despite all the nuances, I think my vacation was a complete success, because I managed to see a lot of attractions, and had a wonderful rest, although the weather did not allow me to do this in full.
At the moment I am planning a vacation in Costa Brava with a baby and I hope that this time I will be able to have a great time by the sea, as you can’t especially go on excursions with a child aged 1 year.
